Community initiative of Oleksandr Klymenko presented Donbas children’s drawings in Brussels
On February 16, at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences it will be held an exhibition of children’s drawings “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children”, organized by Ukrainian community initiative “Restoring Donbas”.
The exhibition is devoted to the problems of children from the East of Ukraine, where the hostilities take place. It includes the pictures prepared by children from Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. The majority of them are internally displaced persons or still remain in the conflict zone.
According to Oleksandr Klymenko (the founder of community initiative), this exhibition in the center of European political life is extremely important in order to remind the world about the problems of Donbas.
“Nowadays, this region has gone from the titles of the world media. There is no information about it. However, the problems are still acute. It is still an area of the war and humanitarian catastrophe. We would like to remind about it, to draw attention to the frozen problems”, – he said.
You can visit the exhibition one day only, from 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Entry – free of charge. At 7:00 PM it will be held an official ceremony. It is planned to carry out meeting with the representatives of the initiative, presentation of videos about the children from Donbas and speech of Sbitneva Sofia – a winner of the contest “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children.” In spring and summer of 2014 she (together with her family) had to pull through the shelling in Slavyansk (Donetsk region), which was the epicenter of the hostilities that time.
The contest “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children” was carried out by community initiative “Restoring Donbas” in May-September 2015. During this time, the organization has received nearly 300 works. Children from the conflict zone were sending their drawings in electronic form. After summing up the results in Kiev, the drawings it was hold the series of regional exhibitions in different regions of the country – Zhitomir (central Ukraine), Chernivtsi (western Ukraine), Sumy (northern Ukraine), Kharkiv (eastern Ukraine), Kramatorsk (eastern Ukraine) and Lisichansk (eastern Ukraine).
The aim of the exhibitions was a demonstration of the real price of the conflict in Donbas, as well as uniting children and adults from different regions of Ukraine for the sake of hope for peace and happy life. Adults, who visited the exhibition, had an opportunity to take a fresh look at the conflict and feel the tragedy of hostilities. Children were able to appeal to their peers in Donbas with sincere wishes of peace and kindness. Since October 2015 to January 2016, the exhibition has been demonstrated to tens of thousands of people.
Let us recall, the organizer of the exhibition is community initiative “Restoring Donbas”, which was established in November 2014. Its founder is Oleksandr Klymenko – Ukrainian politician and public figure. Nowadays, it has united more than 120 thousand people via its projects and online platforms.
