In the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine it was opened the exhibition “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children”

On February 17, 2016, it was opened an exhibition of children’s drawings “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children” in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (7th floor). It includes drawings of children from Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Plethora of them are IDPs or still remain in ATO area.

According to Marina Tatarintseva (a volunteer of the initiative):  “Today in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine it was held parliamentary hearings on the rights of IDPs and residents of ATO zone. We have organized this exhibition on the eve of the hearing in order to draw attention to the problems of Donbas people, to demonstrate a true desire of peace of children from Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It is our task to provide it”.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by both children and participants of the contest- Nicholas (7 y.o.) and Anna (10 y.o.) Gaponyuk. These children know about hostilities at first hand. Their house remained in Donetsk. However, nowadays they live in Kiev.

The exhibition was visited by deputies and journalists. During the event, volunteers of the initiative presented an album of series of regional exhibitions of children’s drawings in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi, Sumy, Kharkov, Kramatorsk and Lisichansk. Regional exhibitions were carried out in order to show the dreams and feelings of Donbas children, unite citizens of different regions of Ukraine around hopes for peace and happy life.

Let us recall, on February 16, 2016, an exhibition of children’s drawings “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children” was held in Brussels.

Volunteers carried it out in the center of Europe’s political life in order to remind about Donbas problems and to prevent its transition to second place on the agenda of world politics. Both children and adults, ordinary families and representatives of the European Parliament, European journalists and experts became guests of the exhibition.

In addition, let us recall that the contest “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children” was organized by community initiative “Restoring Donbas” during spring-summer 2015.

During autumn-winter 2015, the drawings were demonstrated on series of regional exhibition in Zhytomyr (central Ukraine), Chernivtsi (western Ukraine), Sumy (northern Ukraine), Kharkov (eastern Ukraine), Kramatorsk (eastern Ukraine) and Lisichansk (eastern Ukraine).

Children’s drawings were demonstrated to tens of thousands of people throughout Ukraine. The exhibitions were carried out in order to show the dreams and feelings of Donbas children, unite citizens of different regions of Ukraine around hopes for peace and happy life during October 2015 – January 2016.

In addition, during the exhibition children were able to record a video message to their peers in Donbas with sincere wishes of peace and kindness.
